The Windows Support For XP Reaches Its Deadline

There are hardly two months left to the last date of Windows support for XP. It seems that the XP users are more or less ready now to face the challenges and security issues on their XP computers after Microsoft ends the support. According to statistics, about 30 percent of the current XP users do not make use of the Windows update facility and other security updates for XP on a regular basis. The reason is simple. They don’t have access to an active internet connection. For them, the update does not make any sense.

Consequences of the end of XP support

The lack of security updates might not create any trouble for those users, who do not access internet. However, it might create some security issues for those users who use internet extensively for different purposes. According to some statistics, Windows XP remains the most vulnerable operating system in this regard. This is because of the very fact that XP was the most popular Windows operating system once and still remains popular with more than 20 percent of the total Windows market share making it a good target.

XP shares a common architecture with the latest operating systems such as Vista and 7. Once Microsoft ends the XP support, hackers might attack it any time.

Is Microsoft concerned about the risk?

Many tend to believe that Microsoft just wants to abandon its old XP users in peril. However, this not the case. The tech giant has made its policy very clear. In fact, its decision to end the different services for XP is based on its policy. As per its support policy, the company would offer mainstream support for an operating system for a period of five years. Once the mainstream support ends, another five years of extended support is rendered. XP would stop receiving the technical support and security updates once it crosses this extended support period.

Over the last one year, Microsoft has been notifying the XP users about the imminent termination of Windows support for XP. The company has also been trying to persuade the XP users to migrate to the latest operating systems such as Windows 7 and Windows 8. Moreover, the company has warned the XP users that the operating system is not recommended for important business operations over the internet due to these potential security threats.

Well, if you are using XP online, it is highly recommended to migrate to a latest Windows Operating system or other operating systems such as Linux or Mac.

Fixing Some Of The Issues With Windows Live Movie Maker

One of the most annoying errors that you would encounter while using Windows Live Movie Maker is the application crashing error. This might happen repeatedly, not giving you much time to save your data. In such cases, you may contact Windows tech support online for a solution. Better yet, just uninstall the application – which is now full of errors – and install the error-free version from the official Windows website.

Uninstalling the Windows Live Movie Maker from your system

However, some of the Windows users can send us their queries saying they could not find the Windows Live Movie Maker in the Add or Remove Programs section in the Control Panel. The Windows Live Movie Maker application would not be listed here.

This is because Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Photo Gallery and other such applications are included in the Windows Live Essentials software package. You do not have to get rid of the entire software package to get rid of the Movie Maker application.

Go to the Add or Remove Programs section in the Control Panel and select the Windows Live Essentials link shown there. Now click on the Uninstall or Remove option that you would found there. This would launch the un-installation wizard for the Windows Live Essentials. Here, you will be asked to choose, which all applications who want to be removed from the system.

Select the Windows Live Movie Maker application from the list shown and click Next. This would start the un-installation of the Windows Live Movie Maker from your system, which would be over in a few seconds.

Now, restart the system. Go online to the official Windows tech support website and click on the link for downloading the Windows Live Movie Maker application for the version of your OS. Once the installer application is downloaded fully, run it and follow the installation prompts from the wizard.

You might be asked to restart the system again to finish the installation. Now open the Windows Live Movie Maker and see if you are again experiencing the same problem. If so, the problem was not with the Windows Live Movie Maker application.

In such cases, the error that your are facing might be caused by a virus infection or by some error in the Windows Explorer application. Get support from the Windows tech website to fix this issue.

About Removing The Windows Live Software Package From Your System

If you were a Windows OS user, you would find many pre-installed Microsoft applications in your system. Depending on the version of the Windows operating system that you are using, you are likely to get different sets of applications as part of the Windows Live software package. Windows Live messenger and Windows Live mail are likely to be there in all versions.

In certain versions, you would also get other useful applications like Windows Live Movie Maker, Windows Photo Gallery, etc. All of these applications can be linked to the Windows Live network online. Users can access these services using their Windows Live account ID, and also seek help from the Windows Live help website.

Uninstalling the Windows Live mail applications

You might not be using any or some of these Windows Live applications. If that were the case, then it would be best to uninstall them, so as to free up the system memory. Removing these applications from the system does not delete your Windows Live account.

You would still be able to access your account as well as the Windows Live help website, using the same ID and password. You can use your web browser for this purpose. Also, you do not need to delete the entire Windows Live software package. You can choose which of the applications you want removed from the system.

Uninstalling the software package is very easy. Go to your system’s Control Panel. Click on the Add or Remove Programs option. There in the list, find Windows Live Essentials. Once you click on the Uninstall option for this, the un-installation wizard would give you a Remove one or more Windows Live programs option. You can either choose to get rid of the entire package from the system, or choose to keep some of them.

If the reason for your decision to uninstall the software package is the default start-up of the Windows Live applications, then you could change these settings easily. Most of us prefer to use third party chat applications and video editors, than the ones freely provided with the Windows OS. You can set these as the default applications in your system.

Remember to backup any data you might have saved in these applications, before you uninstall them. If you encounter any errors during the un-installation, contact the Windows tech support online.

Cross Platform Voice Chat Not Supported In Xbox One

Xbox One does not need an introduction if you are a fan of computer games. This game console introduced by Microsoft is now used by thousands and thousands of people all over the world. Xbox One did face a few troubles, which were quickly fixed by Microsoft. However, the article is not about that. The latest news that we hear about Xbox One is that, the game console will not support a cross platform voice chat with Xbox 360, its predecessor.

This is quite surprising. Major Nelson said, “I've asked - based on what I know of the voice system, I would be surprised if this was possible”. This can be treated as another bad move from Microsoft because, it is quite obvious that they are promoting their new upgrade rather than supporting the old versions. Now that Xbox One has been released, they would definitely wish people to try it without continuing with Xbox 360.

Xbox 360 was in fact a wonderful game console that many people bought and continue to use. However, just like the other Microsoft products that lose importance when new products are launched, Xbox 360 also had to face similar problems even though it works exceptionally well. If you have already tried to chat using your Microsoft chat in Xbox One, you would have realized that you will not be able to communicate with your friends who are using Xbox 360.You might be wondering why Microsoft had not given some help in this case.

If you are already thinking about switching to the new game console, it is always a good option. But before you take such a decision, it would be best if you wait as Microsoft might do a rethink on their policy. You should never expect Microsoft to stick with their policies when you are talking about support offered for a product introduced by them.

You may expect to hear from Microsoft tech forums as soon as they provide the latest updates regarding Microsoft quickly. A voice chat during a game session is real fun and without it, you would find the session to be a bit boring. To avoid this, you can wait for the release of Microsoft support or try Xbox One instead.

You may contact the Microsoft chat support team to know more about the same and get your queries clarified.
