Setting Up IMAP In Outlook 2010

Microsoft Outlook is widely used across the world as the default email client of Windows OS. The program is much popular for its ease of use and the different features that are offered by it. The Outlook setting steps that are shared below are meant for setting up new configurations and accounts for checking the settings of the program.

Instructions

  • Turn on your computer and then launch the Microsoft Outlook program. 
  • You can then click on the Next button in the Microsoft Outlook 2010 Startup screen. 
  • Select the Yes button to configure an email account and then select the Next button again. 
  • Type in your full name and email address. You can leave the password fields blank. 
  • You may now click on the Manually configure server settings or additional server types button that is located at the bottom of the window. 
  • Select the Next button. 
  • Now you may select Internet Email and then click on the Next button. 
  • In the Internet Email settings window, 
     1.Select IMAP from the Account Type drop down box.
     2. Type in imap.gmail.com in the Incoming Mail Server field.
               3.Type in smtp.gmail.com in the Outgoing Mail Server field.
               4.Type in the Username. Make sure that you type the full email address here.
               5.You may leave the Password field blank and then uncheck the Remember Password check box.
               6.You can now click on the More Settings button.
  • Now you can click on the Outgoing Server tab. This will open another Internet Email Settings window. 
               1.Select the Outgoing Server tab.
               2.Select My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication check box.
               3.Ensure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server button is selected.
  • Select the Advanced tab. 
               1.Set the Incoming server (IMAP) as 993.
               2.Set the Outgoing server (SMTP) as 465.
               3.From Use the following type of encrypted connection drop down boxes, select SSL and then                       click on the OK button.
  • Uncheck Test Account Settings and then select the Next button. 
  • You can now click on the Finish button to complete the Outlook setting steps to setup IMAP in Outlook 2010 program.
