How To Read HTML Embedded Emails As Plain Text Emails In Outlook 2010?

There are multiple reasons why people get Microsoft Outlook installed on their PCs rather than other email applications. Obviously, the superior features of Outlook are one of the reasons. However, it is the wide acceptability of Outlook that makes it even more appealing.

Outlook, by default, supports both HTML encoded emails and plain text emails. Nevertheless, users prefer reading emails in plain text format to HTML format. The reason for detesting HTML format emails is that they take long time to load, often because of their embedded animations and images. Certainly, it is very irritating to wait, while the images are being loaded, before you could read an email. It is also reported that HTML encoded emails could be carriers of worms and viruses. They could cause virus infections on your PC, risking all your installed applications and valuable data.

Therefore, it is important that you avoid opening HTML encoded emails. But what if an HTML encoded email sent to you is of high importance. You can choose to read an HTML encoded email in plain text format. Obviously, you will not be able view the embedded animation and images when you read it in plain text format. However, you can read the message. The following steps will instruct you on reading HTML embedded email messages as Plain Text in Outlook 2010.

Instructions
  • Open Outlook and locate any HTML embedded email messages that you have received in your inbox. If you open any of these HTML messages, you will realize that they contain logos, tables and images, often badly designed because of word rendering engine. As these messages have no appropriate positioning or styling, they are not compatible with CSS. To address this issue and be able to read these messages in Plain Text format, work out the following steps.
  • Go to the File menu and choose Options from the dropdown menu.
  • In the Options section, select Trust Centre followed by Trust Centre Settings.
  • In the new dialogue box labelled Trust Centre, you will see a section titled Read as Plain Text. In this section, select the two consecutive options that say Read all standard mail in plain text and Read all dignitary signed email in plain text. This will enable both options. Click OK to save the changes you have made in the settings and exit the window.
