Troubleshooting The Issues Of Slow Computer

What is more frustrating than a slow desktop? Viruses, malicious codes, excess number of programs in the startup list will make your system respond slow and delayed. These issues can make your system underperform and can render a poor computing experience. The instructions outlined below will help you troubleshoot the issues of snail speed computer.

Instructions to troubleshoot slow computer

  • Click on the Start orb placed on the bottom left corner of the home screen. You may also use the shortcuts, if you wish, to launch the Start menu. Press the key imprinted with the Windows logo to launch the Start menu. Instead, you may also use the shortcut combo, Ctrl + Esc to launch the Start menu.
  • From the Start menu, select the label that reads Run. This will launch the Run dialogue box.
  • Place the mouse pointer in the Run text space. Type MSConfig into the dialog box and hit the Enter key. This will force Windows to launch the MSConfig window.
  • From the MSConfig window, select the tab labeled Startup. The Startup tab will load all the processes that will automatically load when you turn ON your system. 
  • Scroll down the Startup tab and remove the tick mark from the boxes next to the label of the programs that you intend not to launch as soon as you turn ON your system. Make sure that you leave all the programs that you intend to launch as soon as you turn on your system, for example the anti-virus program. You may uncheck the programs and apps like Skype, Windows Live Messenger etc. 
  • Reboot the system after un-checking the selected programs.

Try editing the Start-Up Folder

  • Click on the Start orb placed on the bottom left corner of the home screen. From the Start menu pop up, select the label that reads Programs. From the Programs list, select the label that reads Start Up. This will launch the start-up directory that contains the details of all the shortcuts to the programs that you launch as soon as you start up your system. 
  • Press the Ctrl+ ShortCut label to make it launch when you need to start up. 
  • Hit the Delete option after selecting the program you intend to delete from the start-up folder. This will prevent the program from starting up when you turn ON your system.
